2024 Oscar Predictions

Another year, another Oscars. 2023 ended up being a pretty great movie year when looking back, there was a lot to celebrate. However, I can’t say that the Oscars ceremony will be very exciting this year as Oppenheimer is primed to sweep. But if you read on, you will see my personal picks for the Oscars this year.

Top 10 Films of 2023

Photo from The Wall Street Journal

2023 was quite the year for Hollywood. Most of Hollywood went on strike for half of the year, Disney had a bunch of box office bombs, and of course, a meme caused one of the most profitable double features in history with Barbenheimer. Hopefully, Hollywood will reevaluate the film space and realize that people want more original films. There were a lot of great films this year, but also a lot of slop that people got tired of such as superhero films.

Most Anticipated Films of 2024

Photo from The Los Angeles Times

It is now 2024, a new year to get excited about new movies. On this list, I am leaving out Dune Part 2 and Challengers since I mentioned them on last year’s list. They were both pushed back due to the writer’s and actor’s strike earlier in 2023. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited about both movies. Dune Part 2 is actually my most anticipated film of 2024, but I wanted to spotlight some other films for this year. It should go without saying that some of these films may also be pushed back.

2023 Oscar Predications

Photo from The Playlist

It’s Oscar season again, with the ceremony being just a few days away. I must admit that this year’s Oscars are hard to predict, especially when it comes to the acting categories. The best Support Actress category frontrunners are Kerry Condon vs Jaime Lee Curtis vs Angela Bassett. The best actor category is Austin Butler vs Brendan Fraser vs Colin Farrell. And the best actress category winner is Michelle Yeoh vs Cate Blanchett. Other than that though, Everything Everywhere All At Once is looking like it will sweep.

Here is a link to all of this year’s nominations: https://www.oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/2023. I still have not seen Avatar: The Way of Water or Triangle of Sadness yet and it is unlikely that I will see them before the ceremony.

If you want to know, the biggest snub I’m upset about this year is that Decision to Leave was not nominated at all.

Top 10 Movies of 2022

2022 is now over! It was a busy year and let’s just say the theater business is in flux right now. The Oscar contenders kind of disappointed me this year. However, I was pleasantly surprised that more bigger-budgeted films landed on my list this year. I still have yet to see Avatar: The Way of Water, Bones and All, Causeway, Women Talking, Til, and more, but I hope to catch up eventually. Now let’s get on with the list.

Top 10 TV Shows of 2022

Photo from InsideHook

2022 was a great year for TV shows. And there were honestly so many shows that garnered buzz that I had difficulty balancing them. It seemed that there was a new show I had to check out every other week. I haven’t seen everything, of course, apologies to Abbot Elementary season 2 and Atlanta, but this list was actually somewhat hard for me to make.

Here are some honorable mentions from this year: Under the Banner of Heaven, The Boys season 3, Our Flag Means Death season 1, Pachinko season 1, and Heartstopper season 1. Now let’s get on to my top 10 shows of 2022.

2022 Oscar Predictions

The Oscars are now less than a week away and The Academy has made the controversial decision to not present all 23 categories live. I am against this decision, but I still have fun making predictions so I thought I’d share mine for this year.

Here is a link to all of this year’s nominations: https://www.oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/2022. I still have not seen The Worst Person in the World or Parallel Mothers yet.

I also want to underline how criminal it is that C’mon C’mon was not nominated for anything. And I’m rooting for The Mitchells vs The Machines on that Animated Feature Oscar.

Top 10 Movies of 2021

2021 was definitely a busy year for movies. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to see any of the Foreign Language films currently in Oscar contention like Parallel Mothers, Drive My Car, The Worst Person in the World, or Petite Maman.

Honorable mentions go to Spencer, Passing, Luca, Shiva Baby, and Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It.
