Avengers: Endgame takes place during the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War. The leftover Avengers now must try to bring those who perished back but that begs the question to what cost?

This film is really hard to talk about. You can’t really say ANYTHING about the plot or it would be a huge spoiler. I’ll just say that I can’t believe the Russo brothers did it. This film, I believe, has the most satisfying ending for the 11 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Large chunks of this film felt like a comic book coming to life. There are TONS of really cool moments. But the film also a roller coaster of emotions, and that will pay off more for the hardcore MCU fans than the casual ones, though I’m sure casual MCU fans will also enjoy this film.

This cast is insane. There are so many actors. Let me just say Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were literally made for these roles, they embody Iron Man and Captain America so well. Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye was the most compelling in this film than he has even been in the MCU. Scarlett Johannson’s Black Widow brought some emotion to the film. Karen Gillan as Nebula also got a lot more to do here that I enjoyed. Josh Brolin as Thanos did not have as much screen time, and while his threat did not loom as large, you still felt it. Chris Hemworth’s Thor took a very different route than I thought he would, but I enjoyed his arc none the less, though not as much as other characters. And finally Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk persona may please some fans though he didn’t get too much action in the film.

There are a few questions and plot holes that do somewhat bug me about the film. The first act of the film also feels a bit slow on my second re-watch. But overall, this is a first of its kind film event. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have truly achieved something special, they not only concluded the overall arcs of the core Avengers, but also developed these characters further in this film. They somehow managed to balanced the drama, humor, action, characters, and callbacks and make it work. As said before, this is a very satisfying film for Marvel fans, and I don’t think I can ask for a better closing film.

I give Avengers: Endgame an A-
