Robin Hood surrounds Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton), a wealthy lord, that gets drafted into the Crusades, just to come back and find that the Sheriff of Nodingham (Ben Mendolson).

When I saw the trailers for this film, I immediately knew it wasn’t for me. This movie is complete garbage. They tried to turn Robin Hood into a superhero like Hawkeye, but Robin Hood is not a superhero. There are also SO many plot inconsistencies.

I am a pretty big fan of Taron Egerton, who is in the Kingsman franchise and gave a lovely performance in Eddie the Eagle, and I think the film cast him because they wanted another action franchise like Kingsman, but he’s not good here though I believe that he tries. This is true for all of the cast really including bigger names like Jaime Foxx and Ben Mendolson, they just realized the movie they were making was bad and stopped trying. Everyone is one-note.

The biggest fault of this movie is that it doesn’t know what year it takes place in. The bow and arrow is used more like a machine gun than anything else. The costume choices for all the characters are questionable with various leather jackets and hoodies being worn. They try way too hard to relate some aspects of this film to modern day and it doesn’t work at all.

The action is also terrible. There’s really bad and noticeable CGI, especially with a horse chasing scene (yes I just said a horse chasing scene), too many slo-mo then speeding up action sequences. And for someone whose supposed to care about the poor, you would think Robin Hood would spend more time with the poor people. The comedy in this film doesn’t work AT ALL. And in other parts, it’s completely hilarious where it shouldn’t (and didn’t intend to) be.

I give Robin Hood a D-
