Christopher Robin revolves around a grown up Christopher Robin who has now forgotten his precious friends of Winnie the Pooh and the gang as an adult. Robin’s work has consumed his everyday life, straining the relationship he has with both his wife and daughter. Put once Pooh comes to find Christopher Robin, he remembers how to be a kid again.
As a kid I absolutely adored Winnie the Pooh, so I was excited to see everyone again. Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, and the rest all managed to put a smile on my face in the film. The film is sweet, however, it ends up being generic, which is kind of a let down for me as a big fan of Winnie the Pooh and friends.
Ewan McGregor plays the adult Christopher Robin and gives a good performance. I did really enjoy the scenes between him and Pooh. Hayley Atwell was nice to see, but doesn’t really have much to do. Jim Cummings voices Pooh and Tigger again and it’s really great to hear those voices again and being brought back to my childhood. However, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, and the rest also don’t have much to do in the film which was another minor disappointment. But there is a lot of Pooh luckily, and not too much of the boring grown up stuff.
The beginning of the film I feel was especially choppy. They played out like chapters in the the Winnie the Pooh books, but were sort little scenes played out solely for some exposition. The pacing could have also been better. And the climatic scene was really cliched.
Overall though, the movie is sweet and if you are a Winnie the Pooh fan I would recommend this. Christopher Robin also provided one of my new favorite movie quotes spoken by Pooh, “They say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.” I give the film a B.
